Schooling Ring Inspiration For Your Arena Upgrade

The winter season approaching means it’s time to upgrade your schooling ring to prepare for the new year and upcoming horse shows. Whether that means getting a whole new jump course, or just certain necessities or a new complete jump, here are some of our favorite DJC-stocked arenas to inspire:

The Pony Hunter Ring

Located at Palm Beach Equine Clinic in Wellington, FL., this ‘ponies only’ ring is for those serious about getting top ribbons in the pony hunter classes– all the way from the local divisions to USEF Pony Finals.

This course was set using the Pony Hunter Package from DJC which includes, pony-sized 4’ standards, and 10’ poles, flower boxes and hunter boxes. If you’re just looking to add a few pony jumps to your ring you can also buy a complete pony hunter jump in one click.

The “Filler’s Make The Jump” Ring

Your course doesn't always have to be filled with bulky standards and walls to prepare you for the show ring. This jumper ring, also at Palm Beach Equine Clinic Complex, prioritizes fun and spooky fillers under each jump. Having a variety of unique fillers get horses used to seeing a bit of everything– think spooky shadows, shapes and dimensions– without spending a fortune on other jump elements.

This arena uses a simple DJC Starter Jump Package with added fillers, alongside a few jumper planks and colorful poles.

The Classic Hunter Schooling Ring

DJC’s Schooling Hunter Jump Package is what was used to build this beautiful hunter schooling course located in Kentucky. The clients also chose to add a few slick-looking aluminum cavaletti for pole and small jump exercises, and a few Designer Series standards–building an arena with everything you need to prepare for every type of hunter class at the horse show.

When training hunters for the show, it’s important the horses see all the elements, specifically flower boxes and hunter boxes, that could catch the horses’ eyes. This course checks all those boxes!

The “Prepared-for-the-Show-Ring” Hunter and Equitation Ring

Many schooling rings must be able to accommodate different disciplines and this one does just that!

Building off a Starter Hunter and Jumper Package from DJC, this ring aims to prepare for both hunters and equitation. The client chose to add a logo jump– with some eye-catching elements that will prepare a horse for any jump– and also some wave planks and cavaletti so the horse and rider are prepared for everything.

The Show Course Ring

If you have a large ring, why not fill it with beautiful jumps like the ones you see in the horse show rings? Not only do these kinds of jumps make it more fun to train your horse at home, they fully prepare horse and rider for the horse show by presenting them with every kind of jumping element.

To mimic this course, check out DJC’s Ultimate Jumper Horse Show Package (pro-tip: you can select exactly which designer series jumps you want, or have our horse jump experts choose for depending on your needs and what’s trending this season).

The Classic Grass Field Ring

Having a grass ring at home is a major bonus for your training program. Not only is it beautiful, but it prepares horse and rider pairs for different ring types. While you’re preparing for different ring types, why not prepare for all jump types– this course is built using the Jumper Show Course package with a few aluminum picket standard pairs added on– and make your ring even more beautiful?

Pro-tip: you can also create a course like this any larger sand arena!

The Bouji Hunter Schooling Ring

For those who want to win big hunter classes, it’s best to practice over the kind of hunter jumps you’ll see at the horse show. Think complete hunter jumps with turf and flower boxes and more.

On top of that, you’ll want to make sure your horse is prepared to see more than just classic hunter jumps, and get them solid over small jumps and ground work. This ring has all those elements; complete hunter jumps, a few repurposed jumper jumps, and cavaletti for ground work. Anyone practicing in this ring is ready to win those hunter classes.

To build this course, you’ll need the Deluxe Hunter Jump Package with a fun jumper designer series standard pair added on.

The “Little Bit of Everything" Ring

Beacon Hill Show Stables produces top riders and horses in all three rings– equitation, hunter and equitation— so they knew what they were doing when they built this three-ring course.

Using the Equitation Ring Jump Package as a base, they added fun fill, a cutout logo gate and a hunter derby/ equitation wall. Combining all these elements creates a dynamic course that requires horse and rider to be one at all times, really preparing them to win any class.
