How to Make Your Schooling Jump Course Feel Complete

When building your schooling course at home, there are always more elements to add to help you up your game; and more tools to make setting your course easier.

It’s important to add more than just the basic standards and poles, especially if you are getting ready for a competition. Here is everything else you should add– beyond aluminum standards and poles– to your home ring to help you excel at the horse show:

Jump Wagon

A DJC jump wagon is guaranteed to make your life easier. Our wagon can be hitched to your golf cart– or any other vehicle– to transport jumps within your arena and beyond. This makes setting new courses simple; and the more you can set new courses, the more prepared for competition you are!

Dalman Jump Co.'s horse jump wagon for jump transportationEven though DJC products are known for their light weight, we want to make your life even easier– don’t be lugging your jumps around the ring every time you want to set a new course.

They also double as jump storage– our jump wagons can fit up to 40 poles and 12 pairs of standards, or 4,000 pounds of jump weight– meaning you can stack your jumps on it and pull it inside for safe keeping until you are ready to set a new course.

Logo Jump

Spice up your ring, and make it known that it’s yours, by adding a logo jump to the mix. Logo jumps not only represent your brand or barn, they also mimic sponsor jumps which further prepare you for the horse show.

Logo jumps can be as basic as stick standards in your colors with a logo plank, or you can add a cutout logo plank, or even logo standards.

Jumper or Hunter Wall

Walls are becoming increasingly common in the show ring, making them absolutely necessary to practice– if you can jump a wall, you are prepared to jump anything; they are huge confidence boosters for both horse and rider.

Plus, walls are just fun. You can create a fun jumper wall, like our Lego Man Wall or a unique logo wall to once again represent your brand. They can be the stand-out jump in your home ring!

A ‘Spooky’ Jump

Every arena needs a staple ‘spooky jump.’ This is the jump that horses take an extra glance at and may even hesitate at when they first see it. Practicing over spooky jumps at home makes you better prepared for eye-catching jumps you may see at the show.

Fillers are especially known for adding a spook. Think of that early WEF 2026 Grand Prix where many of the horses spooked at the fan fillers; or cutout fillers that create a weird shadow. Those caught both horses and riders by surprise because they didn't practice them before the horse show– have them in your home ring so you don’t have that issue. You can view fillers you may want to add to your ring here.

Liverpool

Liverpools are another obstacle that may cause a spook and are common in the jumper ring, so they are absolutely necessary to add to your schooling ring. The standard liverpool is most commonly seen, but you can also add an open water liverpool or circle liverpool for an increased challenge.

Unique Poles

Your ring already has solid and striped poles, but what about some of those unique, eye-catching poles. Horses are used to the poles they see everyday, but maybe not poles like mafia and spiral poles. It’s good to have a couple of each of these poles so you are ready to jump them in any situation.

Hunter Fill

Even jumpers benefit from practicing over hunter fill. Hunter fill, like flower boxes and hunter walls, add color and dimension to the bottom of your jumps that can make your horse look at them. Jumping these, sometimes spooky, fill again prepares you to jump anything. And, they get the hunters ready for the elements they will see at every jump in the show ring.

A Plank

Sometimes, horse show course designers like to add a plank to the top of a jump. Planks are usually delicate to the touch– if your horse touches them they are likely to come down. So, it's good to have a plank or two in your ring to add a new dimension to you stick standards and poles.

Logo Mounting Block

It may not be a jump, but adding a custom logo mounting block is another way to add a customized touch to your arena. Why have all the fancy, pretty jumps and not a mounting block to match the vibe?

Dalman Jump Co. has basic jump packages – like our starter jump package, starter hunter and jumper package, and schooling jumper package– that make up a schooling course, and you can add the above elements to them.

Or, we also offer more comprehensive jump packages– like the deluxe schooling jumper package and deluxe hunter jump package– that include basic jumps, and many of the above elements.
